Customer Service:   

What has really propelled Hostgator into one of the most popular web hosting companies online is their highly acclaimed customer service.  The employees at the call center are always courteous and respectful. There usually isn't a long wait until you reach a live person on the phone. 

But what makes them really stand out is how quickly they can fix a problem.  If for whatever reason the people at the call center can't fix your problem, they'll have somebody work on it and email you whenever the problem is fixed.  You usually get an email within 20 minutes letting you know the problem has been fixed.

UPDATE: Just recently there have been some security issues with Hostgator.  It seems that a former employee got a hold of passwords of some of the hosting accounts.  Hostgator has forced everybody that could be affected to change their passwords.  This has caused a riff between some of the account holders and the company.  There have been many account holders that were also extremely unhappy with the customer service throughout the process. 

Host Gator Overall:  (overall score - not an average) Prior to the security issue that they are now facing, Host Gator was considered one of the most trusted and dependable hosts available. Currently we recommend staying away from Host Gator and see how they resolve this issue.
